Jared Bibler | Financial Crime Investigator, Consultant and Author

Jared Bibler was a leading investigator into the world’s largest-ever stock market crimes. His work uncovered fraud committed by three Enron-sized Icelandic banks during the 2008 financial crisis and helped lead to the historic imprisonment of its CEOs. His acclaimed book Iceland’s Secret (Harriman House) lifts the lid on those audacious crimes. Jared remains a key consultant to several financial institutions and an in-demand public speaker.

* Media Commentary, Interviews, and Opinion

Jared is available for media commentary, interviews, and opinion on topics ranging from clean markets, institutional corruption and accountability, financial crime and investigation, and the interplay between financial systems and environmental wellbeing. He is among only a handful of financial investigators anywhere in the world with first-hand knowledge of bringing financial institutions to book, and one of even fewer who understand the connection between corrupt financial practices and larger ecological disasters.

Jared’s book, Iceland's Secret, presents an obvious (and as-yet unrealised) opportunity for screen adaptation. Further details can be obtained through The Double Agents.

Jared Bibler is a seasoned investigator of corporate and financial crime who is known internationally as the man who uncovered the rot inside of the Icelandic banks following the 2008 global financial crisis. His work laid the groundwork for the unprecedented arrest and subsequent imprisonment of those institutions’ CEOs.

With MIT engineering degrees and a CFA charter, Jared began his career consulting for Wall Street in Boston and New York before moving to Iceland, where he managed foreign investments for pension funds. After resigning from a leading Icelandic bank just before the 2008 global meltdown, he spearheaded a special investigation team, referring over 30 criminal cases to Iceland’s Special Prosecutor, including those against Enron-sized banks. His efforts helped Iceland to famously become the only country to jail its CEOs following the largest stock market manipulation trials in criminal history. His critically-acclaimed book, Iceland’s Secret: The Untold Story of the World’s Biggest Con, lifts the lid on the audacious crimes that inevitably follow Wild West capitalism.

Aside from financial consulting, Jared enjoys the mountains and is an accomplished second bass in Swiss choirs. He’s an enthusiastic reader, too, with a recent focus on Thomas Pynchon and Cormac McCarthy. He’s an avid student of languages, currently Bärndütsch and Brazilian Portuguese. Based in Bern, Jared’s experience, diverse interests, and international viewpoint complement his Icelandic citizenship, making him a vibrant and frequent contributor to domestic and global media.
