About
David Shannon is an accomplished actor, author, journalist, and businessman.
Originally from Bristol, David obtained an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University and worked as a TEFL teacher and croupier before entering journalism. He would later become deputy editor of Country Living Magazine and chief theatre critic at Today following a 12-year career as a showbiz and celebrity correspondent for The Sunday Times, The Radio Times, Good Housekeeping, Best, The Guardian, and Cosmopolitan, among others.
After moving into acting – “despite the advice of everyone he met” – David has accumulated appearances in more than 50 acclaimed feature and short films, TV programmes, and theatre productions using his professional name, ‘David France’. Of these, “MONA” won Best Film at the Luxor African Film Festival in 2016, “OLIVE GREEN” received the Gold Dolphin Award at Cannes in 2015, and “THE UNLUCKY MOTHER” was honoured with the Commonwealth Vision Award in 2011.
His first book, HOWUL, was published to critical acclaim in 2021 and received widespread publicity in the British national press. He is currently working on a number of new books, and has recently completed a filming project with the British YouTuber group, Sidemen – full details to follow. David will also playing Claudius and the Ghost in Hamlet and John of Gaunt in Richard II at the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival this summer.
Aside from acting and writing, David runs a thriving events management company that organises, amongst other things, murder mystery events for corporate and private clients.
Outside of work, David is a Bristol Rovers fan. Despite this, he is happily married to the Booker Prize winning novelist, Bernardine Evaristo.
