About
Christopher Guard is a longstanding, recognisable ‘face’ in British stage, television and film. His list of credits is substantial and includes dozens of the UK’s best-loved programmes and several hit movies. His singing ability was demonstrated in the film version of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music (1977) in which he played the role of Henrik Egerman alongside Elizabeth Taylor. On stage, he became a member of the National Theatre at the age of 20 following roles in the BBC Shakespeare production of The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, and others.
Away from the camera, Chris is a skilled musician and songwriter, known internationally as the frontman in bands including Leapfrogtown and Indians in Moscow. He has played festivals supporting Toploader and other major bands and venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. His record, “Attention Deficit Girl” won the Guild of International Songwriters Rock Award in 2004. His songs also appeared in Children of the Circus, an original music play based on Doctor Who’s The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. The play stars Chris as Bellboy, Dee Sadler as Flowerchild and Ella, Sophie Aldred as Captain Gren and AJ, Toyah Willcox as The Band of Infinite Harmony, Ian Reddington as Delios and the Chief Clown, andSylvester McCoy as the High Poet. A limited edition 2CD set and further information can be found here. He is also a well-known visual artist with A-list clients – “quite well-known folk in music and acting”, as Chris puts it – on both sides of the Atlantic.
In rare moments of downtime, Chris enjoys swimming in the sea during electric storms (yes, really), baking bread, and ornithology. He is also a keen runner and philanthropist, having now participated in multiple marathons to support charities like Leukaemia Research and the British Heart Foundation. Chris is also known for his commitment to vegetarianism, a lifestyle choice he adopted from childhood, and for animal welfare. He is currently working on a sequel to his 2022 autobiography, And Then It Was Now. The memoir received glowing reviews and a score of personal endorsements from actors including Brian Blessed (Flash Gordon, I Claudius, Return to Treasure Island), Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean, Dr Who, I Claudius), and Carol Royle (Life, Endeavour, Heartbeat, Blackeyes).
After more than 50 years in the entertainment industry, Chris says he is more creative than ever. “Once a child performer, always a child performer,” he explains. “No surrender!”.
