About

Oggy Boytchev made a dramatic escape from behind the Iron Curtain in Bulgaria in January 1986. The same year he joined the BBC World Service in London as a journalist and newsreader at the Bulgarian Section before moving to Radio 4 and later to BBC TV. In a career spanning 30 years he would later cover the majority of international conflicts since the late 1980s. He has produced television news reports and documentaries from more than forty countries and the world’s major war zones.
His critically-acclaimed book ‘Simpson & I‘ lifts the lid on the untold stories behind the headlines and documents some of the most memorable reports to appear on BBC News. It chronicles Oggy’s turbulent relationship with the BBC’s World Affairs Editor, John Simpson. As his producer, Oggy worked side by side with him in some of the world’s most dangerous places on earth. Simpson calls the book “a delightful account of our cooperation on the road.” The book hit the international headlines following its release in 2014.

Today, Oggy is an in-demand public speaker and author. His second book, ‘The Unbeliever’ (2018), is a work of historical fiction based on a real-life Cold War spy who sold secrets to the CIA.
His latest novel ‘BULLION – The Mystery of Gaddafi’s Gold’ (2023) is an adventure spy thriller based on research into Gaddafi’s missing wealth.
