About

Dr Marcelle Moncrieffe-Newman is a trailblazer in workplace culture transformation and a powerful advocate for equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership. A Chief People Officer and PhD holder whose research explored the career progression of Black employees and the structural barriers within UK organisations, she unites academic rigour with senior-level practice to deliver measurable change.

She is the author of One Step Forward Two Steps Black: Navigating Anti-Black Workplace Culture (Peaches Publications), an unflinching study of systemic bias and resilience. Her writing and speaking challenge audiences to confront the realities of discrimination and to build cultures of psychological safety and accountability.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Marcelle serves as Chief People Officer at City, University of London and as Non-Executive Director and Chair of the People and Culture Committee at the North London Foundation Trust. She also acts as a Board Advisor at Includable Consultancy, where she guides corporate leaders on embedding anti-racist values into strategy and HR governance.

Her expertise covers workplace culture, diversity and inclusion, leadership, and career equity for under-represented groups. Drawing on data-driven research and lived experience, she offers fresh insight into topics such as the “ethnicity career progression gap” and the “two-tier employee experience”. Her approach balances evidence and empathy, inspiring organisations to move from performative DEI initiatives to authentic systemic change.

Marcelle also the Workplace Inclusion Correspondent at The European magazine.

Her recent speaking and media commentary explore themes including inclusive leadership, anti-discrimination law, the psychology of burnout in marginalised groups, and the future of HR in a sustainable, data-led world. Her goal is to equip leaders with the insight and courage to create organisations where every individual can thrive.
