Paul Carroll is a British novelist whose books put the ‘stab’ into ‘establishment’. A former PR guru turned author, Paul’s books include Shaking Hands with Elvis (2024), Don’t Ask (2021), Trouble Brewing (2017), Written Off (2016) and A Matter of Life and Death (2012). Born and brought up in Leeds, Paul has a degree in English Language and English Literature from the University of Manchester. Paul lives in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

Paul Carroll is a British novelist whose acclaimed books consistently let fly at the latest social trends in an entertaining mix of cutting observation, human drama, dark humour and compassion.
Before turning to writing Paul worked in the field of PR for many years, including campaigns for well- known brands such as Aga, Boddingtons, Heineken, Thorntons Chocolate, Chicago Town Pizza, Big
D peanuts, Co-op Funerals and Manchester Airport. Perhaps unsurprisingly, selling things to people they didn’t realise they needed is also at the heart of many of Paul’s books, often with unanticipated consequences for the latest get-rich-quick merchant eager to turn a quick buck at somebody else’s expense. Shaking Hands with Elvis (2024) is Paul’s fifth novel. Based on his experiences and research whilst writing this novel, Paul appeared on a slew of TV and radio stations and in a variety of newspapers in early 2024 opposing the legalisation of assisted dying in the UK. Shaking Hands with Elvis follows Don’t Ask (2021), Trouble Brewing (2017), Written Off (2016) and A Matter of Life and Death (2012).Born and brought up in Leeds, Paul has a degree in English Language and English Literature from the University of Manchester. Paul lives in Altrincham, Greater Manchester. A marketing gamekeeper-turned-poacher, Paul is to be found peering behind the curtains of ‘the next big thing’ when he’s not writing. You may also find him at Elland Road, the home of his beloved Leeds United.
