About
Jared Bibler is a seasoned investigator of corporate and financial crime who is known internationally as the man who uncovered the rot inside of the Icelandic banks following the 2008 global financial crisis. His work laid the groundwork for the unprecedented arrest and subsequent imprisonment of those institutions’ CEOs.
With MIT engineering degrees and a CFA charter, Jared began his career consulting for Wall Street in Boston and New York before moving to Iceland, where he managed foreign investments for pension funds. After resigning from a leading Icelandic bank just before the 2008 global meltdown, he spearheaded a special investigation team, referring over 30 criminal cases to Iceland’s Special Prosecutor, including those against Enron-sized banks. His efforts helped Iceland to famously become the only country to jail its CEOs following the largest stock market manipulation trials in criminal history. His critically-acclaimed book, Iceland’s Secret: The Untold Story of the World’s Biggest Con, lifts the lid on the audacious crimes that inevitably follow Wild West capitalism.
Aside from financial consulting, Jared enjoys the mountains and is an accomplished second bass in Swiss choirs. He’s an enthusiastic reader, too, with a recent focus on Thomas Pynchon and Cormac McCarthy. He’s an avid student of languages, currently Bärndütsch and Brazilian Portuguese. Based in Bern, Jared’s experience, diverse interests, and international viewpoint complement his Icelandic citizenship, making him a vibrant and frequent contributor to domestic and global media.
