About
Mark G. Whitchurch is an experienced automotive journalist and the Motoring Editor at The European magazine. His work spans more than two decades across national newspapers, specialist motoring titles and regional lifestyle publications in the UK and internationally. Since 1997 he has written approximately 1,300 published articles covering road tests, launch reports, back-to-back comparisons, classic car features, motorsport reviews and adventure driving stories across Europe, Asia and the United States. He is recognised for producing engaging, reliable copy tailored to a wide range of audiences, balancing technical insight with accessible storytelling and delivering publication-ready work with minimal editorial intervention.
Mark began his journalism career with the Bristol Evening Post, contributing to its weekly motoring supplement for over a decade. His work there ranged from interviews and event coverage to travel features, classic car reports and picturesque drives to places of interest. In 2003 he was named Tourism Malaysia Regional Travel Writer of the Year for an article documenting a drive around the Malaysian peninsula. Following his coverage of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2007, he was invited to a private dining experience with Lord March, Sir Stirling Moss and Andy Green.
Over the years Mark has written for The Telegraph Motoring, Autocar, Octane, Classic & Sports Car, Classic Car Weekly, Classic Car Magazine, Mini Magazine, Miniworld, GT Porsche, Porsche Post, Observer, Western Daily Press, Worcester Evening News and numerous Archant Life titles including Somerset Life and Hampshire Life. His work has included coverage of the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance as a guest of BMW, driving a 1961 Mini around Monte Carlo Rally routes, and reporting on the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Enthusiast Club expedition across Borneo.
From 2012 onwards, regular commissions for Archant Life publications became central to his journalism, combining new car reviews with destination-led driving features syndicated across multiple titles and digital platforms. He has also written for customer publications for Rolls-Royce and Jeep, and contributed to specialist online motoring outlets. Throughout his career, Mark has worked closely with the majority of the world’s major motoring manufacturers and developed a reputation for strong stakeholder management, self-motivation and consistent delivery.
