About
Andrew Horn, also known by his pen name Arjundas Adhikari, is a British artistic director, author, playwright, translator, and expert in traditional Indian theatre. He is known internationally for delivering the most accurate English translation of Rupa Goswami’s 16th-century epic, Vidagdha Madhava. Born into a distinguished family, Andrew is the son of neuroscientist Sir Gabriel Horn and the grandson of Methodist minister and socialist peer Baron Soper. Despite his notable lineage, Andrew chose a different path, becoming a Hare Krishna monk for 20 years. During this time, he was given the name ‘Arjundas Adhikari’, signifying devotion to the hero Arjuna from the Mahabharata. He also appeared on Top of the Pops with Boy George for the singer’s 1991 hit, Bow Down Mister.
As a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Andrew devoted himself to Lord Krishna and Srimati Radharani. His journey from monk to translator reflects his deep connection with Eastern spirituality and Indian culture, evident in his scholarly contributions to Sanskrit drama and literature.
A Portrait of Lord Shree Krishna – Andrew’s English-language translation of Rupa Goswami’s classic spiritual Sanskrit Indian drama Vidagdha Madhava, drew critical acclaim. Andrew produced a stage adaptation at the National Theatre.
Andrew is currently completing a translation of Rupa Goswami’s second famous Sanskrit dramas, which is set for publication in late 2024.
