Matthew Kayne — Rights Catalogue

Matthew Kayne is a broadcaster, musician and disability rights campaigner whose life has been shaped by resilience, community support and an unbroken commitment to creative expression. Living with cerebral palsy, he has moved through mainstream and specialist schooling, residential care, higher education and fully independent living. His journey includes music, advocacy, fundraising, radio broadcasting, and his own station — Sugar Kayne Radio — built after surviving bladder cancer and recovering with determined clarity about purpose and voice.

His autobiography brings together childhood memories, school and Treloar education, early media encounters, campaigning for accessible streets and services, experimental radio, songwriting, friendships, faith, support networks and adult independence. It is a narrative of struggle, growth and joy — told through lived detail rather than sentiment.

The following project is now open for rights acquisition.

My Life My Voice My Journey

A first-person chronicle of life with cerebral palsy, disability rights activism, music and media. The book moves from childhood in Romford through Ingfield Manor and Treloar schools, youth theatre, holidays abroad, physiotherapy in Hungary, care-home adolescence, GCSEs and college progress, independence, advocacy against inaccessible pavements and services, bladder-cancer surgery and agency-managed recovery.
